Abstract:
Attunements are integral to Mikao Usui's teaching. To practice the system of Reiki, students must first receive attunements. Methods differ but the purpose is the same: to strengthen the students' connection with spiritual energy and to raise their personal energy levels. An attunement is where a teacher completes a physical ritual around a seated student. The student generally has his/her eyes closed and might concentrate on breathing or another form of meditation.

As a Reiki practitioner you do not heal. We merely give our permission to be used as a channel for the Reiki healing energy. This energy is then used by the receiver's body or mind in accordance with their greatest and most appropriate need. The higher self can use the Reiki healing energy for the physical, mental, emotional or spiritual body.

Abstract:
Reiki was practically lost altogether until it was rediscovered by Dr Mikaomi Usui, in Japan, towards the end of the nineteenth century. Mikaomi Gyoho Usui (commonly known as Mikao Usui) was born on 15 August 1864 in a village called Yago, in the Yamagata district of Gifu in southern Japan. The son of Uzaemon, secretary to the mayor of Tokyo, Usui had a doctorate in literature, spoke many languages and had a deep interest in medicine, theology and philosophy.

Abstract:
For decades, physicians and psychologists have been praising the tremendous value and importance of touch. Studies have shown that babies who are not touched will not grow as quickly as their counterparts who are held regularly. Beyond slow growth, these babies often have weakened immune systems and are more subject to illness. Babies who are profoundly deficient in their need to be touched, may also suffer severe emotional damage and even violent behaviour. Psychology studies have also shown the devastating impact of not being touched in experiments with monkeys take away from their mothers.
